Welcome to the Bujinkan Gunn Dojo!
Welcome to the Bujinkan Gunn Dojo, located in Greenhills, Walkinstown. The Bujinkan Gunn Dojo teaches traditional Japanese combat orientated martial arts, formally known as Bujinkan Budo Taijutsu, for both male and female students.
What is Bujinkan Budo Taijutsu?
Bujinkan Budo Taijutsu is the collection of ancient Martial Arts and techniques inherited by 34th Soke (Grandmaster) Masaaki Hatsumi. There are nine schools of martial study which form the core of the Bujinkan, each with their own specialities and differences. Three of these schools are Ninjutsu, and are the only forms of Ninjutsu surviving, while the others are of more typical of the Japanese martial arts of antiquity. As a general rule, classes do not separate the sub-schools but teach the forms as a unified whole to concentrate on training and skills to the student rather than history.
Any one of these schools is a martial art in its own right and would be sufficient; however this gives us a very wide base of understanding to work from. The formal history of these arts can be traced back over 900 years, but they were in existence long before that. The schools were inherited by Masaaki Hatsumi from his teacher Takamatsu in 1972. Unlike many martial arts in the West, Bujinkan Budo has not been converted into a sport or academic exercise in modern less turbulent times and is still taught in its entirety.
